This year’s Tollesbury v the OGA race will begin at 11.00, two hours before high water. Launching will be from Tollesbury Hard which has just been cleaned, although it is also possible to launch from the concrete slip way in Tollesbury Marina at a cost of £5 each way.
Registration opens at 09.00 on Saturday and there will be a race briefing at 09:30. Given how early this is Tollesbury sailing Club has invited us to arrive on Friday night and allowed camper vans into the boat park. The sailing club offers food to its members on a Friday, and this will also be available to anyone who arrives on Friday night. The meal available is announced a week in advance, at a cost of £10, and requests MUST be received by the previous Wednesday.
Breakfast is not available in the club on Saturday morning, but the Tollesbury Cafe, situated only 50 yards from the club house, opens 9 am to 2.30pm, and offers a good full English Breakfast.
The Sailing Club club house will be open in the afternoon so bring along your intruments and song books for Pete "the Knife"'s informal music spot, or take the chance to explore Tollesbury saltings and village.
Prize giving is at 5pm, at the Kings Head Pub in the centre of the village, with a meal to follow at 6pm.
Sunday’s programme is more relaxed, starting with bacon rolls at the Sailing Club. Depending on the weather there will be a sail in company. This could be to either West Mersea, Bradwell, or up the Blackwater depending on wind direction, conditions and participants wishes!
This is an open boat race, although everyone is welcome to come along to the event. If you have no suitable boat and wish to race please contact Alison Cable who may be able to find you a crewing spot. Race fee is £5 (free for Tollesbury Sailing Club members). There is no late booking fee this year, but please book as soon as possible to allow for efficient organisation.
